How Would You Survive as a . . . ?

How Would You Survive as a Killer Whale? by David Stewart

Survival stories are always popular.  I help kids find them daily.  And now I can add a different type of survival recommendation, from the creator of the much-loved You Wouldn't Want to Be / You Wouldn't Want to Live Without nonfiction series.

How Would You Survive as a Bee?
How Would You Survive as a Killer Whale?
How Would You Survive as a Lion?
How Would You Survive as a Polar Bear?

Explore the struggles for survival of different animal species. Experience the life cycle of each animal through its own eyes!  How does it find food and raise its young?  How does it handle the terrain and the weather in its territory? How does it get along with other animals?

New from Lisa McMann

The Forgotten Five: The Map of Flames by Lisa McMann

The author of The Unwanteds series is starting a new series -- The Forgotten Five!  It's being described as X-Men meets Spy Kids.  Yeah, that makes me want to read it, too!  The first book came out today.

Map of Flames by Lisa McMann (02/22/22)
Fifteen years ago, eight supernatural criminals fled Estero City to make a new life in an isolated tropical hideout. Over time, seven of them disappeared without a trace, presumed captured or killed. And now, the remaining one has died.

Left behind to fend for themselves are the criminals’ five children, each with superpowers of their own: Birdie can communicate with animals. Brix has athletic abilities and can heal quickly. Tenner can swim like a fish and can see in the dark and hear from a distance. Seven’s skin camouflages to match whatever is around him. Cabot hasn’t shown signs of any unusual power—yet.

Great Backyard Bird Count

Bushtit - Great Backyard Bird Count 2022

It's time for the annual Great Backyard Bird Count!  This is the 25th year that the world has come together for the love of birds. Over February 18-21, 2022, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society invite people to spend time in their favorite places watching and counting as many birds as they can find and reporting them. These observations help scientists better understand global bird populations before one of their annual migrations.

Of course, the Great Backyard Bird Count is also the perfect time to read about these feathered friends!
